After three weeks of intense competition, Dancing With the Stars said goodbye to a changed woman after Tuesday night?s results show, when Margaret Cho and her partner, Louis van Amstel, were eliminated.
After years of never feeling pretty enough and hiding behind her comedy, Margaret tells In Touch that?s all in the past. ?As a comedian, we are full of defenses and jokes and keeping people away,? she reveals. ?My comedy is all about trying to be at peace with yourself, yet it?s hard for me to put down the jokes and the defense mechanism. That?s what makes this DWTS journey even more profound, because now I can just be me and dance.?
With a story incorporating the theme of this week?s dances, Margaret and Louis tackled the topic of teen suicide and bullying, something personally very close to Margaret. Dressed in the colors of the gay rainbow flag, the couple?s samba sent out the message that you should never give any bully the power to stop you from living your life. And while the message was well-received by the judges, the couple scored low, receiving an 18 out of a possible 30.
?Our message was really powerful and strong and came from my heart,? Margaret says. ?These gay teens who are committing suicide? it kills me inside. I want the world to heal from this and for all kids who have felt bullied to know they don?t have to give anyone that kind of control over their lives.?
Margaret will continue to spread the word of tolerance as she continues the comedy tour she has been juggling while doing DWTS. ?I have a lot of dates left ? till mid-December,? she laughs, ?and I?ll now be talking a lot about Dancing With the Stars.?
