Kanye And Gaga?! Readers React To Our Man And Woman Of The Year

Kanye West vs. Eminem, Lady Gaga vs. Britney Spears: Our readers duke it out over whether our picks for 2010's top man and woman were worthy.

Last week, when MTV News revealed our picks for Man of the Year (Kanye West) and Woman of the Year (Lady Gaga), we expected that there would be some folks out there who wouldn't agree with our choices ... mostly, Eminem fans — because, as we've learned time and time again, they don't agree with anything.

But there's no way we could have predicted just how many people were genuinely outraged with our list ... MTV.com readers flooded our site with comments, calling us every name in the book, accusing us of vast multinational conspiracies, and doing everything short of declaring war on our headquarters (please don't attack on a Wednesday, that's Taco Day in the cafeteria). We're only slightly exaggerating.

(They're more than just pretty faces, but you can still check out photos of our Men and Women of 2010!)

By far, the biggest point of contention centered on our Man of the Year list ... and, more specifically, why we gave the award to West instead of Eminem. Fans of both men lit up the comments with passionate arguments, with each side working overtime to state their case. It got pretty nasty, which sort of made it even better.

Over on the Woman of the Year list, well, most people seemed to agree that Gaga deserved the honor, though, of course, there were still some out there who believed that Britney Spears was robbed — even though she didn't release a note of music this year. Her fans are just that loyal.

To be honest, we were sort of blown away by just how many of you cared, so we've decided to collect some of the best responses here. But don't think the debate has to end right now ... if you still feel like your voice hasn't been heard, sound off in the comments below. And now, without further ado, let's get acrimonious.

"Eminem [had] two #1 singles both with sales over 3 million! [He was] iTunes' Artist of the Year, Billboard's Best Male and Best Album ... best-selling single in the UK, VMA Best Male and Best Hip Hop, EMA Best Hip Hop artist, MTV's #1 Hottest MC of 2010 ... opened at VMA and BET awards, Recovery already sold 3 million and still counting copies in less than 6 months (I pray Kanye makes it up to 1 million by God's grace), 10 Grammy nominations ... Eminem had a bigger year and MTV knows that!" — Kennethngbor

"Kanye had a bigger year? Yeah he did. 10/10 from Pitchfork? Yeah. 'Runaway' movie? Yeah. G.O.O.D. Fridays (new song every week)? Yeah. Most critically acclaimed album this year? Yeah. Sold over 430,000 copies without a NUMBER ONE single and being the MOST HATED man in America? yeahh. Need I continue? Em's album wasn't all that. Hell, Teflon Don was better than Recovery. ... 'Ye had a better album, [and] a better year." — Alex

"I think [Kanye] deserved to win. Of course Em sold more records, Hello? America's white-boy rapper? Duh! I mean, he's cool, don't get me wrong ... Em puts out a good CD when he tries, but Kanye killed it ... So to hell with what people say, I'm good with 'Ye winning man of the year." — Hsoj

"I feel that MTV and Kanye have a plot together to make each other bigger. They hyped the you-know-what out of him before he even dropped his latest album. Suddenly he has been back for a couple of months after he took some time off to seek help and he becomes Man of the Year? Come on. Everytime he does something outlandish it's on MTV, so I'm starting to wonder if he and the network are working together to help each other gain publicity. Shady business if you ask me." — JayJay

"MTV, accept the many mistakes you made this year in many of your lists and make a better one next year and stop underrating people! #1 for Kanye is not deserved, he does not deserve to be in the top 5! Usher is supposed to be on this list, Bieber and Eminem are supposed to be higher!" — Emperor

"Kanye deserved this, denying it makes you look stupid because over this entire year, he's the one that brought music (especially hip hop) forward. I LOVE EMINEM, I couldn't be more serious about that, but at the end of the day, Kanye brought music forward as opposed to Em getting back to the level of quality we are used to getting from him. Em's still the sh--, but this year, Kanye made a better product." — Ryan

"Kanye West just put out one of the best acclaimed hip-hop albums of the last 7 years ... he created a masterpiece in the movie 'Runaway' and stretched the boundaries with the moving painting piece for 'Power'. Kanye West did more this year to move [forward] the culture, especially the hip-hop culture than Em did by far. If you make the best album you should be the man that year, simple as that." — ThisGuyCalledJeff

"I'm happy for Kanye, and people should be happy for him too for giving out all that free music and putting out a classic album instead of hating! And I'm pretty sure Eminem is not thinking about this list, because he's making bread off that 3 mill sold, so let's let Kanye shine for a moment please!" — TommyBoy502ky

"I'm tired of MTV giving Gaga too much praise! I can't wait for Britney Spears to release her new album in March! Gaga did not revive pop music. She is good but she is not better than the pop stars who came before her like Britney, Christina, and Madonna ... When Britney came out, she revived pop music! When Gaga came out, she didn't revive nothing. Now Britney will be back with a new album and she will be on top." — IfUSeekPeanut:)

"Okay, let me explain to you why Britney is not better than anybody, she is not an icon, she won't be a legend, she used her physical looks to call people's attention, she is auto-tuned, and she doesn't sing live! Gaga is talented and better than Britney, in so many levels ... she writes her own music, and plays the piano, the problem is that Britney has a longer career, but Gaga will have it too in 10 years; yes she is crazy, and yes she is a freak, but that's what makes her special and unique, Britney these days is just another pop star; the fact that she's been relevant for a decade doesn't mean she is a legend, and Lady Gaga is definitely the icon of this generation." — EMMNL

"I seriously don't care what anyone could possibly say, I love Lady Gaga with all my heart and nothing anyone says will ever change that. I've honestly heard it all, and it only makes my love for her stronger. Can't wait for Born This Way. I'll be the first one to buy it in Canada." — Christian

"There was no other choice [for Woman of the Year]. [Gaga's] carried pop music the past two years. Without her Ke$ha and Nicki Minaj would not exist. She's single-handedly brought dance music from the basement to the Penthouse." — frankru2000

Become a millionaire, then watch the Money Drop!

Million1217.jpg Thanks to game shows like Survivor and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, winning a million bucks has become a reality for a lucky few. Now, thanks to Fox?s game show Million Dollar Money Drop, that dream of being a millionaire has come true for a slew of lucky couples ? even if only for a few fleeting moments.

Confused? Here?s the drill. At the beginning of each game every couple is presented with $1 million ? in cash. They then must answer a multiple-choice question and place an amount of cash on the answer they believe is right. Bet it all on one answer, or hedge your bets over the three remaining answers ? the only catch is you must bet it all at once. Get it right, keep your money, get it wrong and the money drop will take what you bet. Sure it sounds easy, but the pop culture-themed questions are tricky, and the suspense can get unbearable.

?This has been ridiculous fun,? show host Kevin Pollak tells In Touch. ?When they told me what the game was I was extremely excited. And when I heard the kind of success it?s had in like Germany, where 60 percent of that country was tuning in, those are huge numbers.?

Kevin Pollak?s name might be synonymous with movies like the Usual Suspects and Casino, so people might find it strange he?s adding ?game-show host? to his credits. According to the acclaimed actor, it?s all part of his progression. ?This is something I never thought I would do, yet here I am,? he laughs. ?When I walked onto a movie set for the first time as an actor, with no formal training, I had no idea where acting came from. Now I have diversified into another bizarre direction that has people wondering. But to be honest, 1 percent of the country is making a living doing something they love, so I feel honored.?

Another thing Kevin loves about his new gig is getting to eye $1 million at the start of each game. ?I had never seen a million dollars cash before starting this show,? he reveals. ?It is extraordinary, absolutely bizarre and fantastic, all at the same time.? And while Kevin is a self-confessed gambler, he?s not lining up to play Money Drop anytime soon. ?I would do horribly on the show as they don?t give me the questions and answers ahead of time,? he laughs. ?So I am actually playing along with the contestants and in my mind I have lost it all ? it?s terrible.?

Million Dollar Money Drop will air for four consecutive nights on Fox, beginning Monday, December 20 at 8 p.m. EST.

Lady Gaga Named MTV Woman of the Year

MTV has declared the incomparable Lady Gaga its Woman Of The Year for 2010, despite the singer not even releasing a new album in the last 12 months.

The network said Gaga's chart success, advocacy for gay rights and controversial videos (i.e. for "Telephone" and "Alejandro") were why she got the nod.

MTV is also a network that does not actually play music videos, and whose awards are always 100 percent arbitrary, so why bother with justification?

Gaga the Goddess

WOMAN OF THE YEAR: MTV loves it some Lady Gaga.

"Lady Gaga didn't even release a proper album in 2010, and somehow managed to become an even bigger star," the network said in a statement.

Don't forget about her fashion contributions. The meat dress may have something to do with it. She was also the channel's Woman of the Year for 2009.

Lady Gaga will release her second full-length studio album Born This Way in 2011, preceded by an unannounced lead single in February. Can't wait!

Lady Gaga And Kanye West Are 2010's Most Fashionable Celebs

Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry also shined this year.

What four ladies and one dude had everyone buzzing about their fashion choices in 2010? Well, this year, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West kept us guessing about what they would wear on a daily basis.

From red carpets to high-profile Hollywood events, these five had us trying to copy some of their hottest looks. Here are some of their fashion highlights from the past 12 months:

Lady Gaga
Listen, Lady Gaga isn't scared to try anything when it comes to fashion. She takes risks, breaks all the rules and makes a whole new set of her own. She's Lady Gaga — need we say anything more?

Standout Moments: It's easy to say the "meat dress," but we have a few others as well. The Armani Prive orbital dress she wore to the Grammys was out of this world, the Alexander McQueen VMA red-carpet dress showed she was a Renaissance woman, and her black Armani VMA dress was also stunning. Finally, the black-sequin bodysuit she wore to the "We Are Plastic Ono Band" tribute was truly Gaga hippie-chic.

Rihanna
With one change of her hair, Rihanna became red-hot and set the trend for everyone to embrace fiery-red locks. Her fierce sense of style combined street edge with girly frills. Not many can pull off a tutu the way Rihanna does, but she works it with confidence and a big smile.

Standout Moments: Her ethereal white EMA Marchesa gown was show-stopping, her Madonna-esque VMA performance tutu and belly-baring tank top was truly Rih, her super-short patterned shirt dress she wore to the Kids' Choice Awards was hip, and that lacy red gown she wore to the AMAs embraced her siren side.

Katy Perry
"California Gurls" may wear daisy dukes and bikinis on top, but this particular California girl wears lots of latex and sequins, not that we hear any of the guys complaining. The singer proved that in 2010, she wasn't just a certifiable pop star, but also a full-fledged fashionista.

Standout Moments: She glowed at the Met Costume Gala; the sparkly, nude-colored mini she wore to the MTV Movie Awards had us doing double takes; her peacock-colored, sequined one-piece at the Kids' Choice Awards was very Vegas; and her Zac Posen, gold flower-petal-emblazoned gown she wore to the Grammys definitely referenced her time in India.

Kim Kardashian
It's not easy wearing bandage dresses and Grecian-style gowns, but reality TV's starlet du jour, Kim K, does it with ease and sass and manages to pull off each look rather, dare we say, seamlessly.

Standout Moments: Strutting her stuff like Liz Taylor or J.Lo at the CFDA Awards in her pale-blue, jewel-encrusted gown; keeping it short and sweet at a Beyoncé event in November; looking femme-fatale glam at the FiFi Awards in her strapless, body-hugging black dress; and looking white-hot at the Emmy Awards in her Grecian gown complete with golden detailing on her neckline.

Kanye West
There aren't many guys who are able to stand up in the fashion ring alongside the ladies, but Kanye West isn't just any guy. He's a guy who can wear a grill, a giant chain and a red suit all at once and somehow make it look sophisticated and not gaudy. On his Twitter page, he always shows love to high-end designers like Lanvin and has us salivating over his taste in couture.

Standout Moments: His VMA performance suit was red-hot and a reference to the similar outfit he wore to the BET Awards earlier that was equally eye-catching. His suits from the "Runaway" film were so well-tailored, and the plaid blazer he wore to the "We Are the World" recording session was gaudy and purely Yeezy.

Whose fashion did you covet in 2010? Let us know in the comments!

Kanye West, Swizz Beatz And More Top Producers Of 2010

Bink! and Clark Kent also hold it down by finding key samples, in Mixtape Daily.

This is Mixtape Daily, so you know the deal: We spotlight the essence of street culture. And when it comes to those behind the boards, it gets no truer than producers who know how to dig in the crates and find a dusty sample that will inject life into a new composition.

These four guys reached deep down, far and wide, to the nether regions of their musical minds to create bangers that became the soundtrack of the past 12 months. Without further ado, we close out our year-end awards by saluting the Top Producers of 2010:

Bink!
Wax Lift: Smokey Robinson's "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?"
Street Symphony: Kanye West's "Devil in a New Dress"

Originally, this one (co-produced by Mike Dean) dropped as part of 'Ye's G.O.O.D. Friday series, and West picked apart Bink!'s loop of the Motown star's stirring vocals to add his own twist. "Hood phenomenon, the LeBron of rhyme," he spit. "Hard to be humble when you stunning on a JumboTron/ I'm looking at her like, 'This what you really wanted, huh?/ Why we arguing anyway? Oh, I forgot, it's summertime.' "

Clark Kent
Wax Lift: Enchantment's "Silly Love Long"
Street Symphony: Rick Ross' "Super High"

Praises to Barry White and his "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little Bit More, Baby," but it's not that sample that raised this stirring Rick Ross track to sublime heights. Rather, it's the way Kent (and co-producers the Remedy) flip Enchantment's "Silly Love Long" that takes this one up a notch. "We shining when it's pitch dark, yeah this bitch a movie, but this time I play a big part," Ross muscles through the beat with his flow. "F--- marketing, look at what I'm accomplishing/ I'm beating n---as by margins bigger than Fran Tarkenton."

Swizz Beatz
Wax Lift: Justice's "D.A.N.C.E." remix
Street Symphony: Jay-Z's "On to the Next One"

While most producers speed up samples, Swizz took the road less traveled and slowed down this driving dance tune into a military-march tempo. The result was Hov's mantra for his next decade of dominance and MTV News' #8 Song of 2010. "Baby, I'm a boss, I don't know what they do," Jay spit. "I don't get dropped, I drop the label."

Kanye West
Wax Lift: Backyard Heavies' "Expo 83"
Street Symphony: "Runaway"

Rick James might be the signature sample on this one, but it's the drum loop from the Backyard Heavies where 'Ye (and co-producers Emile, Mike Dean and Jeff Bhaskar) set their sail for this number to rise to one of the year's best tracks. "See, I could have me a good girl and still be addicted to them hood rats," Yeezy rhymes. "And I just blame everything on you/ At least you know that's what I'm good at."

'Bones' Fan Columnist: What to Expect in the Second Half of Season 6

bones season 6.jpgHello, Bones fans! So I don't know about you, but I'm personally still trying to get over the heartbreak and emotional damage that came with last week's mid-season finale. I mean, really Booth?  Really Bones writers?

I don't even think we can use the excuse of trying to be true to the characters anymore because I think we can all agree that the Booth we have all known and loved for years now is not the same guy anymore, so my question is: Where do we go from here?

What can we expect from the second half of the season, and how do we get back to the old Bones? Well, of course I don't have all the answers to these questions, but I was able to gather up a few interesting tidbits for you guys to think about over the break. Check it out!

What to Watch: TV Picks for December 20-26

Filed under:

Million Dollar Money DropMONDAY, DECEMBER 20
'Million Dollar Money Drop' (8PM, Fox) series premiere
Teams are given $1 million -- for reals -- upfront, then have to answer seven multiple choice questions correctly to keep it. Oh yeah, it sounds easy, which means it isn't, of course, especially with a million smackeroos on the table. Comedian, and Web show host, Kevin Pollack hosts this remake of the British game show which sounds deceptively simple and, in addition to being, well, not -- simple, that is -- does prove to be completely addictive viewing. The show launches tonight and airs for the next three evenings, so gather the fam, tune in and prepare 1) to debate what you would do when faced with the multiple choice questions and 2) to get very hooked on this (for now) limited-run series.

'The Sing-Off' - Boyz II Men and Sara Barellies are among the celeb performers when the a cappella groups find out which of them is winning the big $100,000 prize (8PM, NBC) season 2 finale

'The Closer' - In the opener of a two-part holiday episode, Brenda's going to have a lot on her plate at work and at home ... her 'rents show up with some very, um, moving news (9PM, TNT)

'My Big Friggin' Wedding' - Bride-to-be Megin doesn't believe it'll be a classy affair when Mr. Jonathan Meatballs celebrates his impending nuptials at a gentlemen's club, so she decides to do some celebrating of her own. At something called Hunk-o-Mania (9PM, VH1)

'Men of a Certain Age' - Last season, ladies man Terry was the one surrounded by women. Tonight, Joe's juggling two dates, and Terry's focusing on a sales contest at work (10PM, TNT)

'Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It' - Will Bret finally propose? Do we still care? (10:30PM, VH1) season 1 finale
